Assistant Professor of Geographic Information Science Southwestern University

Southwestern University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geographic Information Science (GIS) to begin in Fall 2024. Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in a relevant field by August 1, 2024.

Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate (1) academic training in the current theory and methods as well as applications of environmental GIS (2) enthusiasm for developing courses suited to the liberal arts context that reflect inter/transdisciplinary approaches (3) a commitment to working closely with undergraduate students and mentoring undergraduate research and (4) a record of working towards inclusivity, equity, and diversity in their teaching and institutional service.

Potential research areas are open and the successful candidate will be housed and eventually considered for tenure in the department most appropriate for their scholarly profile. The position will be responsible for teaching introductory and upper level GIS courses that support the Environmental Studies major and minor as well as courses in the candidate’s area(s) of interest.

This position is a 9-month appointment. Southwestern University’s standard teaching load is five courses per academic year (3-2) along with departmental responsibilities, advising, and university service.
