The 77th annual meeting of the Canadian Association of Geographers will be hosted at York University, Toronto, on May 31 – June 3, 2027. Geographers and allied researchers from across the discipline and around the world are warmly invited. The conference will be in-person only, with no online or hybrid formats.
The overall conference theme is ‘Geographical Stories / Récits Géographiques’ – a theme that signals the diverse forms of geographical knowledge production that the conference will encompass; and, the importance of translating and mobilizing geographical research through compelling stories.
The local organizing committee is now inviting proposals for organized sessions. A later call will invite individual paper/poster submissions.
We welcome proposals for themed sessions (usually comprising four oral presentations), or for special sessions in varied formats including panels, workshops, or discussions based on alternative media such as film or other art forms. Session organizers may also envision a series of sessions that will occupy several timeslots in the conference program.
Themed and special sessions are an excellent opportunity to stage focused discussions around important topics. We aim for an inclusive event and encourage anyone to submit a session proposal, including student researchers, Indigenous knowledge holders, professionals and practitioners.
At this stage, session proposals do not need to be populated with specific papers/participants. Sessions approved by the local organizing committee will be posted on the conference website, where individual submissions will be collected, and session organizers will be able to review and adjudicate them.
Submissions
Session proposals can be submitted on our session proposal page. The deadline for session proposal submission is November 6th, 2026. Session organizers will be informed of acceptance by November 20th.
