Emerging Scholar Award in Health and Medical Geography

Nomination Deadline: January 15, 2026

The Health and Medical Geography Specialty Group (HMGSG) of the AAG invites nominations for the Emerging Scholar Award in Health and Medical Geography. This award recognizes early-career scholars who demonstrate significant potential for distinguished scholarship and meaningful contributions to the future of health and medical geography.

Eligibility:
Nominees should have between 2–8 years of active scholarly work since completing their PhD from an accredited institution as of the 2026 AAG Annual Meeting. Periods of parental leave, medical leave, or other time away from academia do not count toward this window.

Nomination materials:

  • One nomination letter describing the nominee’s potential for distinguished scholarship and anticipated impact on the field
  • The nominee’s CV (PDF preferred)

Note: If multiple nominators wish to endorse the same candidate, please coordinate to submit a single co-signed letter. If the nominee’s time since PhD exceeds eight years due to career interruptions, please note this in your nomination email.

Submit all materials by January 15, 2026 to Jessica Finlay at <jessica.finlay@colorado.edu>. Nominations will be reviewed by the HMGSG Board and external reviewers. Nominees do not need to be HMGSG members to be considered.

Thank you!
