Department of Geography at University of Connecticut (UConn) is recruiting a PhD student to work on the geography of drug use and HIV/AIDS from both methodological and intervention perspectives. The student will work on projects related to a multi-year study funded by the National Institute of Health.

Qualified candidates should have a Master’s degree in Geography or a related discipline. Candidates should have a strong interest in health/medical geography and a solid expertise in geocoding (e.g. large datasets, programming, and harvesting location data from text), Network Analyst functions, and basic statistics. The student will have exciting opportunities to gain training and experiences in the following areas: a) Advanced GIS functions, b) spatial statistics, c) social-ecological modeling, d) social network analysis, and e) mixed methods research. In pursuit for a doctoral degree several datasets are available to apply the acquired training and skills. The student will also have opportunities to interact, collaborate, and work in research environment with other talented graduate students, post-doctorates, and faculty members from the Center of Health Intervention and Prevention (CHIP) of UConn, Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS (CIRA) of Yale University, and Department of Geography of UConn.
