Ellen Percy Kraly, William Kenan, Jr. Professor of Geography, Colgate University, Hamilton, NY, USA. Ellen’s research interests include U.S. immigration policy, refugee policy and resettlement, population and environmental change, community and public health, HIV/AIDS, and the use of population data in public policy.
Ellen Kraly holds a masters from The Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health and earned her Ph.D. from Fordham University studying population studies. Her current research program has three themes: (1) the role of population data systems in policy and administration of Aboriginal affairs in Australia; (2) refugee policy and resettlement issues in the United States; and (3) population vulnerabilies, community health, and HIV/AIDS in subSaharan Africa. At Colgate, she serves as Director of the Upstate Institute, a Colgate initiative to promote scholarship, community based research and capacity building in the upstate region of New York. Ellen teaches courses in population geography, international migration and refugee studies, medical geography, environmental studies, and research methods. She serves on the board of directors of the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees, and the Central New York Community Foundation. Her experience with cancer has also drawn her into fund raising for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
