The 20th International Medical Geography Symposium (IMGS 24)

We are pleased to announce the 20th International Medical Geography Symposium (IMGS 24), scheduled from July 14-19, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Downtown Atlanta, Georgia, USA .

Venue and Location

Strategically located in the heart of Atlanta, the conference venue offers excellent connectivity to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport through the metro system (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority – MARTA) and is within walking distance of several key tourist attractions downtown. Prominent tourist attractions include the Georgia State Capitol, Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, and the Center for Civil and Human Rights. These venues offer attendees an opportunity to immerse themselves in the city’s rich history and its commitment to human rights and social justice. Other attractions include the World of Coca-Cola and Georgia Aquarium.

The venue’s connectivity to the cultural activities in midtown, such as the High Museum of Art, the Woodruff Arts Center, the historic Fox Theatre, and the vibrant Ponce City Market, offers attendees the opportunity to explore the contemporary and artistic facets of Atlanta’s cultural scene. Ponce City Market, a historic mixed-use development known for its unique blend of boutiques, galleries, and artisanal shops, showcases Atlanta’s creative entrepreneurship. The conference venue is also in close proximity to the Atlanta BeltLine, an urban redevelopment project that provides a network of public parks, multi-use trails, and transit along a historic 22-mile railroad corridor, inviting symposium attendees to experience a pivotal element of Atlanta’s urban transformation.

Field Trips

The planned field trips to the Blue Ridge Mountains will be a multifaceted experience, offering attendees opportunities to explore tourist attractions, such as the gold rush town of Dahlonega and the Alpine-inspired village of Helen, and to immerse themselves in nature at locations like the tranquil and scenic Tallulah Falls.

Opportunities for Students and Early Career Scholars

There will be opportunities for student travel awards; early-career researcher sessions; sessions on diversity, equity, and inclusion; special issues with reputed journals; and networking socials.

The overarching theme for this symposium is “Health & Medical Geography in a Changing World: Looking Back and Moving Forward.
